What happened in AZ?

Yesterday Arizona met and chose its two add-on superdelegates.  What happened was very surprising -- and should send chills up the spines of those in the Clinton campaign and her supporters.

Now, normally the add-on superdelegates support the winner of the state's primary or caucus, or perhaps split according to the state's vote.

Yesterday Jerome predicted that Clinton would pick up four superdelegates from that day. But that was not to be the case - and AZ was a big part of that story.

NEITHER of the new super-delegates endorsed Clinton. Instead, one endorsed Obama and the other remained neutral.  Terry Goddard, the uncommitted superdelgate, said that he is weeks away from making a decision.

If Clinton can't get even one of these two add-ons in a state  she won, that tells you a lot about her chances of attracting superdelegates in general.

Excellent point.  We are on the road that is coming to an end and all things must be taken care of.

A minor quibble with your diary - Goddard was an add-on.  The other was elected vice-chair of the AZ Dem Party, which is not an add-on position.  It was a vacant office.  Either way this was a small coup for Obama and very welcome news!

I would think that superdelegates not following the "will of the people" would worry Obama supporters more than Clinton supporters.

Anyone know much about the new NM add-on, who is currently undeclared?

Re: What happened in AZ? (none / 0)

It sure undermines the claim that superdelegates are about to flock to Clinton.

It sure was overly dramatic, was my point.

Re: What happened in AZ? (none / 0)

Janet Napolitano, the governor of my fair state of AZ, has been supporting Obama since before Super Tuesday. She went on state TV saying that people should vote for him and then he lost AZ by a lot (I think she looked like an idiot as a result). She and her cronies in our state government seem to think that they are smarter than their electorate. This type of action just shows that superdelegates are doing what they want with total disregrad of the popular vote in their states.
